What is CBIT

The Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics (CBIT) program is a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and habit reversal training that consists of weekly 1-1 video chat sessions for individuals whose goal is to significantly reduce tics and associated symptoms in a short amount of time. CBIT is systematically designed to teach self-awareness of one tic at a time, then using a specific protocol - implement an alternative movement that is incompatible with the tic. This process is reinforced through daily use of strategies and will result in a significant reduction of tics. This process is repeated and adapted for each tic the individual has. Throughout the program, the individual will learn strategies to increase confidence, advocacy skills and reduce sensory hypersensitivities, anxiety, and co-morbid OCD. What to expect with CBIT: * Understand the process of how tics occur and impact the brain and body * Learn how to detect when the tic is about to occur and use an alternative movement to block the tic from happening * Identify potential triggers that influence tics and use effective strategies to decrease tics in various environments and situations TIKTOK TICS CBIT Therapy is a leader in the management of a Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) commonly referred to as TikTok Tics or Functional Tic-like Behaviors. This condition includes a sudden onset of alarming tic-like behaviors in response to anxiety, depression, isolation, and often misleading social media related to Tourette Syndrome. In 2020 the Calgary Tic Disorders Clinical Registry referred to TikTok Tics as Functional Tic-Like Behaviors (FTLBs) and is tracking the trend closely. The condition is extremely disabling and many individuals seek help to reduce these behaviors and return to functional living. I am an occupational therapist who has been practicing for 26 years working with children and adults in a variety of environments to include pediatric outpatient and private practice as well as home health. I am certified in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) by the Tourette Association of America. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about CBIT and how I may be able to help you! What clients are saying: "My daughter was diagnosed with a functional tic disorder after a motor vehicle accident. She tried many different medications which didn't seem to help. After seeing the neurologist, she was referred to Wendi for CBIT. I cannot recommend this therapy enough. We saw positive results after every session. Wendi worked with her weekly to help her create competing responses that really worked! She would talk through her different tics to make sure that they targeted the ones that were bothering her the most at that time. My daughter loves Wendi! I am so grateful for Wendi and the work that she does. I know everyone responds to things differently but my daughter is now tic free and can go back to living a normal teenage life! It really works! I cry tears of joy just thinking about the progress that my daughter has made with CBIT. I thank God for Wendi and her passion to help people." M. York I currently do not accept insurance. However if you do have insurance, your carrier may provide some coverage for occupational therapy under medical treatment with an out-of-network provider. I will provide you with a detailed monthly billing statement at the end of each month which has all of the important and necessary provider and procedure information which your insurance will need to process a medical claim. It is important that you find out if your insurance policy covers occupational therapy. As with any insurance questions, it is a good idea to call your insurance company directly to verify coverage before receiving services. Fees for services is available upon request. Referrals from providers can be sent via fax at 704-459-5074.
